FK Lowry Generating Success at Kilroot

FK Lowry have recently undertaken Rotary Bored Bearing Piles in a unique location in County Antrim. FK Lowry were subcontracted to install 72 1200mm diameter Bored Piles for new Turbine Foundation Slabs and new Chimney Stacks inside Kilroot Power Station.

The project was quite unique in that we were asked if we could operate within the working live Power Station at Kilroot. After some initial reservations, we visited the Client and undertook a site visit. It was at this point that we realised the vast scale of the project and we were able to mobilise and erect our 76t operating weight Soilmec SR-75 within the Main Turbine Halls. The locations for the piling were the Turbine Slab and Chimney foundation with head heights of 40m and 70m respectively. We were delighted to work collaboratively with Atlantic projects on this scheme and look forward to developing future schemes with them.

Working within controlled environments is nothing new to FK Lowry as they have previously successfully delivered projects for Network Rail, Diageo and Pharmaceutical Clients.

“FK Lowry were subcontracted to install 1200mm Dia. Rotary Bored Piles within a controlled environment within an existing Power Station. I was impressed by their Project Management of the piling package, particularly their approach to HSEQ. I look forward to working with FK Lowry again.”
Jack Cleary, Atlantic Projects
