Clonrose Developments have submitted a planning application to Ards and North Down Borough Council for a mixed use redevelopment of the former Crepe Weaver Site on the Comber Road in Newtownards.
An extensive 25 acre redevelopment the proposals include; Demolition of existing buildings and proposed mixed use development scheme comprising circa 95 no. dwellings (Class C1); nursing and care village comprising circa 96 beds (Class C3); 78-bed hotel (Sui Generis); 1no. 4-island petrol filling station (Sui Generis); 1no. drive-thru (Sui Generis); leisure unit (Sui Generis); neighbourhood retail centre to include a convenience store (Class A1); and hot food outlets (Sui Generis); light industrial/storage and distribution units (Class B2 &B4); business units (Class B1 (A), (B) & (C); including provision of a new roundabout (at Cambourne Housing Estate entrance), road improvements at Comber Road access and new access on Comber Road/Castlebawn Link Road.
It is expected planning will be obtained in 2022 with construction commencing in 2023.

- The Crepe Weavers factory was established at the site in 1949 , having previously been in use as Miles Aircraft factory. The weaving factory produced fine man made Nylons and Rayons and was established by the Mladek Family who had fled Czechoslovakia during World War II.
