Ballydougan to Newry Phase 2A Trunk Main now complete

02 Sep 2013

Awarded by Northern Ireland Water, the £5.2 million, Ballydougan to Newry Trunk Main works commenced in January 2012.

Three squads were assigned to install the trunk main which consisted of 5km of 500mm and 12km of 600mm ductile iron pipe both within carriageway, verge and across agricultural land.

The works also required the passing under of the Belfast to Dublin rail link by pipe jacking a 1500mm diameter concrete sleeve to accommodate twin 710mm HPPE pipe.

The works also involved the installation of a new main under the Bessbrook River at Carnbane, this was carried out by open cut method and by placing 2 lengths of 900mm ductile iron sleeve to receive the new main. There were 3 large connections carried out at Scarva, Jerrettspass and Carnbane Pumping Stations. The main was brought into service in February 2013.
